You will be leading, co-ordinating and writing proposals to secure future space missions and technology development projects for Open Cosmos.
You will have to face uncertainties inherent to creating mission concepts, you’ll need to be resourceful and progress despite a level of uncertainty in needs or requirements.
You will also have opportunities to support the rest of the fleet remotely, and will have benefit from being able to visit and work at sites other than your base location. During your placement, you will: Work alongside Mechanical Engineers to resolve real engineering problems that directly affect the portfolio.
You will also support aspects relating to quality and stock management, keeping clear and appropriate documentation. Throughout all stages you are engaging with colleagues from R&D and project management departments. What you need to be successful - You’ll need to be an all-rounder, with hands on skills in mechanical and electrical assembly, as well as operating linux systems
You will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics or equivalent in relevant discipline. Demonstrate a strong background in mechanical engineering with excellent working knowledge of engineering drawings. Have design experience of materials selection, joining and manufacturing techniques, with advanced level knowledge of a 3D CAD system with hands on experience.
You will also demonstrate knowledge / experience of: Designing systems that operate under challenging conditions such as Ultra High Vacuum and cryogenic temperatures. Designing mechatronic dynamic motion systems. Engineering drawings and 3D modelling systems and familiar with modern manufacturing methods including additive manufacturing techniques.
You will work closely with other engineers in the Ground Segment and adjacent teams to deliver a fully autonomous satellite operations platform. As the company and software is growing rapidly you will be challenged to deliver new features that impact the business and provide value to customers.
